St Andrew’s School Early Learning Centre and Habich Buildings

"Pascale have a good understanding of school environments." Alan Williams, St Andrew's School

Pascale Construction was awarded the contract to construct the new Early Learning Centre (ELC) and refurbishment of the Habich building. The works included the demolition of an existing building and construction of a new Early Learning Centre. These works included outdoor play spaces and landscaping.

Concurrently, the existing Habich building was refurbished and provided with new services, floor coverings and joinery.

Detailed finishes were required to give the buildings, including the existing building, a modernised and fresh look.

The project had its challenges including being amidst a fully operational school. Additionally, mid project the client requested the refurbishment and extension of two adjacent buildings, which was to be completed within the original project time frame.

The new build consists of the Early Learning Centre (ELC) building with an open communal area between two main classroom areas, and included large window seats to overlook the large outdoor play area.

The play area consists of a polycarbonate pergola leading up to a new timber deck. A new shade sail, children’s slide, and featured a stainless steel water play pump on exposed aggregate concrete, sand pit and digging pit. Climbing rocks, timber tepee, log seats, timber steppers and lawn areas for an environmentally-friendly playing space was also installed.

Another stand-out feature  is the Corten laser-cut feature fence at the entrance of the ELC.

Due to client’s requirements and needs to maintain maximum operational areas at all times, programming was our main challenge.

The collaborative approach between our client, architect, delivery partners (subcontractors) and the Pascale Construction team resulted in project delivery within the original project duration and within budget.
