This project, located in Pennwood Aged Care Village, comprised two new buildings, each with ten (10) new bedrooms (Building 7 & Building 8), and an extension to existing building (Building 5), to create a health and fitness area for residents.
The project had a few challenges, firstly that works were being undertaken inside an existing and fully operational aged care facility. Extra care was taken during construction with transparent communications between Pascale Construction and interested parties to maintain daily operation of the facility, with minimal disruption. Although contaminated soil was also detected early in the project, we offered a safe and cost effective solution, to rectify this issue.
The buildings were constructed similarly to the existing structures with raft concrete slabs, brick veneer construction (with face brick and rendered bands), rendered feature bands on the brick parapets and corrugated iron roofs, with feature solid timberwork, and the inclusion of fireplaces.
Internally, each resident’s room consists of built-in cupboards, an ensuite with its own Velux Solatube skylight, a kitchenette, and a nurse call system. Additionally, Building 7 features high ceilings with Velux skylights and internal feature wrought iron balustrades.
The external landscape showcases exposed aggregate concrete paths, stone clad retaining wall, solid timber arbours, verandahs and outdoor furniture, which has created much needed outdoor living space for residents and staff.
